Alkina is a new story on an old place.
‘ALKINA’ is an Indigenous Australian girl’s name meaning ‘Moon’ or ‘Moonlight’. This name embodies our respect for the land and the many forces of nature that we work with to bring life, energy and authenticity to our wines. Ancient stones and soils, organic and biodynamic viticulture, small scale winemaking and the creation of unique micro-terroir wines, grown and made on our estate in the Western Barossa ranges.

Alkina Vineyard
A punchy, full-flavoured Semillon with bags of character and texture underpinned by grapefruit and pith and a subtle fresh green herb note that lends complexity.
"Cloudy in the glass, with hues of mandarin and pink grapefruit peel, the 2022 Kin Old Vine Semillon has a nose of that skin-like character of orange peel and citrus zest, while the palate is chalky and layered with crushed minerals and white spice. The palate is far more beautiful than the nose. It is elegant and refined. Very smart."

Stony, mineral characters intersect with plums, cherries, violets and bright spice. Juicy and intense with an easy, balanced flow through to gravelly tannins on the finish.

This is the first vintage of Spice Garden – a wine that encapsulates the beauty and detail of the special Shiraz block next to the Old Quarter. On Pedro Parra’s 2nd visit we mapped this block, finding limestone, schist and clay areas, and immediately understood its potential. This is a refined, elegant Shiraz with spice and mineral complexity, nervous tension and cool fruit character.

Bright and pure red and blue fruit drive powerfully through the palate, allied with structured tannins and savoury inflections.

A truly fascinating wine that defies all categorisation…except that it is more-ish and very thirst-quenching. Alpine herbs mingle with orange and nectarine notes on the nose and something of a light amaro herb character. Lip-smacking acidity and a sense of zip combine with orange fruit character on the palate. Edgy, vital and memorable.
2016 plantings near Greenock Creek. Curiously the block was planted with Semillon cuttings but evolved to Semillon, Semillon Gris (red skinned) and some odd Shiraz vines. A happy accident! NASAA certified organic and biodynamic.

This bolts out of the glass with lifted fresh and dried flower aromas, as well as red cherry and strawberry. Fruit has a cool, savoury, almost mineral aspect and the chalky tannins are perfectly enmeshed in the wine.
